“Terror mounts and fear runs deeper in the chilling continuation to Neil Marshall’s award-winning and critically acclaimed modern horror classic, The Descent. Distraught, confused and half-wild with fear, Sarah Carter (SHAUNA MACDONALD) emerges alone from the Appalachian cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. Unable to plausibly explain to the authorities what happened - or why she’s covered in her friends’ blood - Sarah is forced back to the subterranean depths to help locate her five missing companions. As the rescue party drives deeper into uncharted caverns, nightmarish visions of the recent past begin to haunt Sarah and she starts to realize the full horror and futility of the mission. Subjected to the suspicion and mistrust of the group and confronted once more by the inbred, feral and savagely ruthless Crawlers, Sarah must draw on all her inner reserves of strength and courage in a desperate final struggle for deliverance and redemption.”

The Descent 2 is scheduled to hit theaters in the UK on May 15th 2009. No release date for the United States has been announced.

I thought the first one was OK. The storyline sounds pretty dumb though. She's going to go back? Send some people in with guns and blow those mutant things away.

I really wish it was Electric Boogaloo. That movie kicked some serious ass. It made me the breaker I am today.

I will see this. I'm too lazy to check, is Marshall involved in this?

Not in any substantial way - he's producing. You presumbly don't need me to tell you how much the premise of this remake doesn't work AT ALL for UK audiences?

Meh, I'll wait for it on DVD, then.

And re: the premise. Both endings sucked hard (both the UK and the US), so they get a pass.

But even with that, why wouldn't it be possible with the UK ending? IIRC

Spoiler:
she didn't die. It just left off with her cradling her kid.

This makes me sad. I suspect it will suck and I really dug the original.

Spoiler:
she totally did die. It left off with her thinking she's sat opposite her kid with a birthday cake but when we pan out she's still stuck in the cave with the monsters. Also this new movie doesn't just use the premise she survived it carries straight on from the car scene. So in the UK we have the same scene where she's driving in the car, but in the Uk there's a ghost in the car (or something) and it jolts back to show this was a hallucination so it's not going to work to rewind to that scene so she can then park in the road and get all hysterical at the start of 2. FWIW i quite liked the UK ending although it had flaws, i admit

I'll definitely pick it up at some point but whether or not it will be any good? Not likely. The made for DVD franchise cashins have been pretty terrible lately, and I cant imagine this will go into a theatrical release in the US. I loved The Descent though, and its good to see British horror picking up again between Marshalls work and movies like Creep, Shaun of the Dead, etc.

I'm nitpicking, admittedly, but her
Spoiler:
being stuck in the cave does not equal death. Certainly it's assumed she's lunch, but technically I didn't see a body.

Marshall is awesome. He's completely batting a thousand for me (including Doomsday, which rocked). I have Creep, but have not watched it.

yeah but my point is
Spoiler:
whether she's alive or dead in the cage (she's dead ;) ) she certainly isn't driving in her car having escaped from that hole
