Stephen King just stopped trying...
"Under the Dome" by Stephen King - When the smalltown of Chester's Mill, Maine, is surrounded by an invisible force field, the people inside must exert themselves to survive.
The Simpsons Movie - Russ Cargill, head of the EPA, presents five options to President Schwarzenegger to keep Springfield's pollution contained; he randomly picks the action of enclosing Springfield in a large glass dome.
So when can we expect the book about the lamp monster?

I hate to say it, but I only made it about halfway through UNDER THE DOME before I put it down and never went back to it. It just didn't grasp me enough to keep going.
CELL was another recent one that I couldn't finish. I thought it was horrible.

My favorite King book is 'The Colorado Kid' and it's not even a horror book. His horror stuff isn't what it used to be.

I understand why they published that under the Hard Case Crime catalog (obviously to draw attention to it), but it always bothered me that, while enjoyable, it wasn't a hard boiled book.

I thought it was too. That was probably the first thing of his I'd read in years that didn't make me want to vomit at the end.

Any of you tried Full Dark No Stars. IMO, it is a return to the King that we all know and love. The title of this one is so fitting. You ever walked down a country road at night when the moon is new and the sky is completely dark, no stars. That's what this book is like, each story seems to revolve around the theme that there is a darkness inside each one of us. It's an honest book that makes you question what you would do in these situations, or at least they made me question what I would do.
King is sometimes accused of being wordy, yet he seems to bat every ball out of the park when he confines himself to the constraints of a hundred or so pages. I think that's something most of us can agree on.

I haven't read that yet, but I want to as the consensus has been it's surprisingly good.
I actually prefer is bigger stuff, like The Stand and IT over his short stories (although I do like his novellas a lot).
Shiki will come in shortly with statements like "hack" and "magical negro". Heads up.

I haven't met Shiki yet but this person is certainly welcomed to feel that way, I just humbly disagree.

Shiki only likes something if you've never heard of it. The more popular it is, the more he hates it. He's our resident hipster.

There is nothing at all wrong with enjoying underground horror but when you are disliking something simply because it's the cool thing to do and are unable to appreciate some really great writers (it doesn't have to be King) who happen to be mainstream, then all you do is limit yourself to what may be just mediocre work. Of course, I would prefer to hear his arguments and the types of authors this person enjoys before a make a judgement call on his personality.
