What did you just watch? (Horror)

POSSESSION
US remake of the South Korean film JUNGDOK (ADDICTED). Two brothers, one a failure with a criminal record, the other Mr. Nice Guy McArtist and a badly aged Buffy, who is looking awfully thin, are trapped in a mystery love triangle. With 85 minutes running time this one just flows along without any highlights. It's not bad, just unremarkable.
Has anybody seen the original?

Tucker and Dale Vs Evil
Excellent horror comedy that actually works. Hapless hillbillies Tucker and Dale take a weekend out to fix up their newly purchased vacation home, which belonged to a serial killer. They cross paths with a bunch of city college kids and every turn of events makes the kids think that the bumbling pair are crazed murderers, when it couldn't be further from the truth. Funny, gory and a little love story on the side, it's highly recommended.

Diary of the Dead
My first viewing of Romero's return to independent film making was way back in '08 during the FantasyFilmFest Nights. I liked the film back then, but had serious issues with the whole barn scene and the character of Samuel the Amish. Three years later and nothing has changed. Samuel is still responsible for some oddly over-the-top scenes of humorous splatter and gore. As heavy handed as Romero is with his social commentary/critique, as clumsy is he with the insertion of comedy. The odd moment of comedy aside, Diary still offers a bleak look at the start of an undead apocalypse and how the it brings out a myriad of personal issues among our group of heroes. Not one of Romero's best, but still an interesting make-over of his zombie series.

A bleak movie yes. There were 2 things I liked about it.
1) The pool of zombies.
2) It was better than the shitfest of Survival of the Dead.
Although, to its credit, it did teach me that if there really was a zombie apocalypse, chances are I'd be killing living humans almost as much (if not more) than zombies; because I wanted to kill everyone in that movie.
I'm interested in seeing it again to see if I can find something more in it, but I haven't had the guts to.

Saw Survival a while back and can't remember much, only that I didn't like it. I'm all for eating horses, but I felt that Romero failed to construct a working movie around the idea of substitution/reintegration. As for wanting to kill everyone in Diary, I think that is a normal reaction to their stupidity. The Texan girl was ok though. She can live.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence)
Not as disgusting and far funnier as expected. Dieter Laser as the mad scientist owns every scene he is in. Overall a nice little experiment that manages to push the boundaries of the horror genre without resorting to a guts and gore overkill. This is really surprising since, writer, director, producer Tom Six, judging by the include special features of the US BluRay, seems to be an imbecile. He replaced Eli Roth on my "The most stupid horror directors" list on spot number one.
The Fourth Kind
Solid flick that might have been better without the edited-in, faked "real footage" of interviews, cop car cams etc.

The fake "real footage" really ruined this movie for me. It would have been a good movie without it.

It didn't bother me that much, but I felt that the faked footage didn't really mesh well with the "dramatized" scenes. They felt alien somehow. Pun intended.

Well, by trying to make them real they made them look really fake. And the guy asking the questions really annoyed me (he was the writer or director or both).
It was just an unnecessary gimmick.

The funny thing is, people still call in to Coast to Coast and talk about this movie, thinking that it's entirely real. The last one I heard was about a month ago. From the time it came out until about a year later, multiple calls day after day. Hoopleheads and hayseeds.

Watched a hilarious slasher flick called 555. Rating of 2.7 out of 10? I'll have some, please.
