I've only read his short stories up to Dispatch, but I really liked those.

Dispatch, though, is really compelling. I can't tell you why, it's just about a guy who can write letters real well.

So far I'm about 60% through Swan's Song, and I'm kind of wishing everyone had died at the beginning. :(

I'm reserving final judgement until I'm done though. It's not a bad book, just full of characters I really don't like.

When you are finished, we can make a graph of corresponding characters in The Stand and in Swan Song.

So far, I think the best comparison I can make is that if The Stand was Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, Swan's Song would be Richard Matheson's Hell House.

I'm reading Night of the Crabs by Guy N. Smith (Thanks AR!), and listening to the Darktower series at work. So far I'm about half way through Wolves of the Calla.

I thought that's what you meant, but I didn't know if there was something I was missing.

It's a quick read, and it's pretty funny in an unintentional way. Definitely like reading a bad Syfy channel movie. Right now, they think they just blew up the crab caves with a mine, but there's still 50+ pages left, so I don't think the peril's over yet!

This is pulp goodness at its finest. I really liked both Crab books I read. They aren't literature for sure, but damn are they a lot of fun.

Doing a little research on the author, it turns out he writes erotic shit too. I didn't know it until after I read a few books, but it's pretty damn obvious, now.

I can totally believe that! I've just been skipping those parts in the book.

Definitely pulp goodness. It has been a lot of fun to read, and I'll definitely be reading the other crab book we've got, and probably the others too.

I like the other Crab book just a bit more because it's even more ridiculous (in a great way).

I would love to get the entire series (there's like 4 or 5 of them total) in paperback. I should ask our foofoo British friend to check his local used bookstores.

I saw there were more, I wonder if they're out there in ebook form somewhere.

I also wanted to say I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the Darktower Series. It's not at all what or how I thought it would be, and it continues to both delight and surprise. It's too bad Shiki thinks King is such a hack, because I think he would really dig these.
