Nightmare (1981)
Anyone else ever see this one? I bought the Continental VHS and it blew my socks off. It's not a bonafide horror classic, but drips with the same grindhouse sleaze as Maniac. It's about a guy supposedly cured from his severe schizophrenia by medication. His caretakers release him, despite his still violent reoccurring dreams, he soon begins killing strangers and stalking a family. It's not all that great, so it's tough for me to peg why it struck me. Though it attempts to throw more thriller/suspense techniques in the mix as opposed to your standard grindhouse potboiler. Elements like flashbacks and "stings" in the score to evoke dread really work here. Not to mention an horrific double murder sequence.
Code Red (really like this DVD company) are currently working on a SE DVD release probably coming next year.

Released (heavily cut) in the UK as 'Nightmares in a Damaged Brain', it was one of the more notorious 'video nasties'. As I remember it was unremarkable until the double murder right near the end. Long time since I saw it though.

Only video nasty that resulted in prison time for a man selling a non-BBFC approved version.

This was released on DVD in Germany ages ago by Laser Paradise. Never picked it up, because the quality is supposed to be below VHS. I'm really looking forward to get the Code Red DVD. I really <3 them for releasing all that schlock. I also like their low productions values for interviews. Their stuff feels more private and natural than the more polished efforts of companies like BU.

BOARDINGHOUSE is fucking terrible...but in a good way. I have yet to order BEYOND THE DOOR...
Also I found this interesting regarding Tom Savini's denial of working on the film:
Slasherama: Let's clear up the situation once for all, regarding Nightmares In A Damaged Brain. Your name is in the credits as effects guy. How do you plead?
Savini: "Didn't do it. Not guilty. They put they name on the credits - surrounded by a box. Not even Marlon Brando gets a box around his name! They put a box around my name, and I was doing Creepshow at the time. I was aware of it and called them. They actually called me back and said, 'If we come down and show you the movie and you like it, can we leave your name on it?'. I said, 'No'. Then they offered to pay me $25,000! I said, 'No, I didn't do it. Just get my name off that thing!'. I should have taken the money, because my name's still on it anyway."
Slasherama: What do you think of the movie?
Savini: "(Struggles to be diplomatic for a moment, then gives up) No… it's terrible. They did put pieces of my tape over my name on the posters, in New York, but I had fans calling from drive-in theatres, telling me my name was still on it. What could I do?"
Slasherama: You could have sued.
Savini: "Back then I could have, but I had no time. I was enormously busy on Creepshow and couldn't do anything."

Polish interview with director Scavolini:
Q: The gore effects, especially throat slashing and the double climatic axe murder sequence, are realistic and shocking. Who were responsible for making them? Is it true that Tom Savini was only a creative consultant during gory scenes?
Scavolini: TOM SAVINI MADE UP A LONG STORY ABOUT BEING OR NOT BEING ON THE SET DURING THE SHOOTINGS. THE FACT IS THAT THERE ARE BACKSTAGE PICTURES WHO TESTIFY THAT HE WAS IN FACT, IN CHARGE OF ALL THE SPECIAL EFFECTS, AND HE CANNOT DENY IT.
BUT THE STORY BEGUN WHEN THE MOVIE BECOME A BIG HIT, AND HE ASKED FOR MORE MONEY OR HE WOULD HAVE HIS NAME TAKEN OFF SCREEN. BUT HE COULDN’T. HE HAD A CONTRACT AND HIS NAME WAS TAKEN OFF ONLY FROM THE POSTERS. THE FILM INDUSTRY IS FULL OF ASSHOLES AS YOU KNOW.

BEYOND THE DOOR sure looks interesting. BOARDINGHOUSE looked a bit to cheap and random for my taste. I might give it a spin, if I can get it for 5$ at secondspin or something. I'm also interested in picking up KILLER'S DELIGHT and THE UNSEEN (Barbara Bach
).The Tom Savini stuff is interesting and highly amusing. I really dislike the guy, and that's really the kind of douchebaggery I expected of Sexmachine.

Completely forgot about The Unseen...
Unsure if you heard but the Deimos Entertainment Mausoleum / Blood Song double feature is actually half of a Code Red release. Their distributor decided to forgo a individual Code Red release of Mausoleum and include the film in this double feature. Blood Song is pretty shitty with a shitty transfer, but Mausoleum isn't that bad (lots of Bobbie Bresee in the buff) and it's just like CR's other releases with a solid transfer and overall presentation.
