TWILIGHT
An exploitation film par excellence. What gets exploited you ask?
The desires and feelings of teen girls around the globe. It was quite interesting to see how exact everything was set-up to hook the target audience. Most glaring point is the emptiness of the Bella character. An emptiness that is needed, because Bella is nothing more than an avatar for the viewer. A blank canvas on which the -female- viewer can project herself.
A bad film for sure, but nevertheless a really interesting product.
I don't know if you are serious, but now I want to watch it.

At 1:26 the magic happens.

This is a not uncommon observation about the film.

I'm German. I'm always serious.

I was really shocked to see how blunt the film is in this regard. Bella is the Joe Sixpack of teen-girls. Everything you get to know about her are facts that probably fit 99,9% of teenage girls in western world.
You never learn a single thing about her that gives her edges, something that makes her special, a personality.
For example there is a long scene where Edward confesses that he is a
Later there is scene where Edward takes Bella to the top of a tree. The movie conveniently switches into montage mode. So you see them talking, but you don't get to hear what Bella has to say. Once again you get zilch info about her, but instead ample opportunity for girls project themselves into the character.
As I said: Bad movie, interesting product.
PS: TWILIGHT is the first movie I watched, that had a black guy playing Hacky-Sack. Never knew that this was possible...

Zombie's Halloween and Halloween II
Liked what I saw. I especially liked how unhinged part two was and and how far it strayed from the source material. H2 is Zombie's best movie so far.

K's posts about Twilight made me bite the bullet last night and watch it since it was on demand.
K' is so dead on it's scary. This is easily one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. It fails at almost every point.
The acting is horrendous. I don't know why everyone in that school doesnt think that Edward is a full on waterhead. He acts completely retarded. The scene in the biology class (and really any scene they are alone together) is proof of this.
It's like the vampire "venom" adds an extra chromosome when it changes you. All the vamps are like that. Especially Edward, the bad guy (James?) and the other Cullen who is channeling the worst Edward Scissorhands (with a touch of Paul Reubens) I have ever seen, Jasper(?).
And goddammit if every time stupid Edward was onscreen I thought of nothing other than this pic that was posted in the other thread...

The writing is awful, but that is expected from the source material. The montage thing when they are sharing anything is silly.
The fucking sparkling skin is soooooo cheesy and laughable.

I just watched the original Wicker Man. I didn't realize this was a musical. I should've been tipped off, because Christopher Lee looked exactly like Roger Daltrey.

I've got Wicker Man in my Netflix Queue. Haven't seen it yet. (I know... the shame)
Me last:
Psychos in Love and Hardware. Really enjoyed the latter. The former, however... Heavily flawed.

DAY OF THE DEAD (2008)
I somewhat enjoyed Steve Miner's film. It doesn't have much in common with the original, but works on a cheesy b-movie level. I also admire the gigantic amount of chutzpah one has to posses to cast Mena Suvari as a Corporal.

Yeah, it's not horrible, as long as you disassociate it with Romero.
Day of the Dead 2: Contagium is MUCH worse.
I got an early copy of Cabin Fever 2, so that's tonight.

I actually thought Day of the Dead was OK. If it was on SYFY and not titled Day of the Dead I think most would think it was just a fun zombie flick.
Picked up ALTERED at Big Lots for $3........best $3 I spent in quite a while. It takes a little bit to get going but ends up being quite the sleeper before it is all over.

Altered was a pleasant surprise for me, too. Better than I thought it would be.

There are no known words that can describe how much worse CONTAGIUM actually is.

The Last House on the Left (2009)
Hollywood does exploitation, and actually pulls it off. A decent script, some pretty good tension, and a terrific performance from Sara Paxton. Recommended.

Finally, a fun horror movie with equals parts laughs and suspense. It was nice to see a recent slasher movie with some creative kills, too.
