Rob Zombie's Halloween.
I don't know if we had a thread on this, if we did I'm starting a new one.
What are people's thoughts on the film? I enjoyed it big time, which surprised me as I'm generally anti-remakes. I liked the way it was divided into three distinct acts; the childhood years where we see the abuse Michael suffered, the institution years where he gets more of the same and then the post institution time which was a pretty faithful, but condensed, remake of Carpenter's original.
I thought Zombie did a pretty good job by adding to Myers' character while still being respectful to the original work.

I haven't watched it since I saw the bootleg cut that floated around before release, but I hated:
ug.
That kid is fucking horrible. On par with Anakin douchbag kid.
I need to give it another watch, though, since I know I hate it. Maybe my opinion will change.

At 1:26 the magic happens.

Im a fan of this one, I liked the bigger badder michael and I actually liked the three part story as well. But what I really, REALLY didnt like was Sherri Moon as the "mom" and also the whole white trash redneck theme.
Other then those two things though I give props to Zombie for his addition to the franchise.

I also didn't like Shari Moon or the white trash theme. I wish Rob would move away from that gimmick. It detracted from the movie I thought. I'm hoping he doesn't keep it for the upcoming remake of The Blob.

Yeah, I thought the kid was pretty horrible too but in a good way. You shouldn't really side with Michael in the movie and he makes damn sure you don't.

As for the redneck white trash thing, we think all Americans are like that so it was pretty normal.

I really liked how Zombie changed Michael and Loomis. He made Michael human. In the original Michael was the shape, a killing machine with not that much of a background or motivation. Zombie grounds the mythical Über-killer Micheal Myers as just a victim of paternal abuse.
Loomis is shown as a narcissistic, opportunistic asshole. He turned his biggest failure, the treatment of young Michael Myers, into his biggest success via his book about the case. He's far from Carpenter's destroyed and nearly psychotic Loomis.
I won't go into the white trash thing, since DJ explained it perfectly:

So is Rob's Halloween 2 worth $12?
I could (maybe) pick up the unrated director's cut DVD for that price tomorrow, I hated Zombie's first.

Just finished the director's cut of H2 and I have no idea how the theatrical version played, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. There's some things that seemed off, though overall I was genuinely impressed. Gotta think about it more, but it might just best any of the original series sequels.

Yup... both versions.
Disappointed and confused theatrically, and just disappointed with the director's cut...
Honestly, that ending.
Question: Why does Danielle Harris' character NEVER leave the house?

Sorry DDM but you are wrong, the first one was good but the second was absolute SHIT. Take out every single scene with Sheri Moon and maybe you have something, but leave it as is and it BLOWS. Seems as though Mr. Zombie just couldnt leave her out of this one, and it is because of this that I now no longer trust him as a film maker.

I agree with all of your criticism, but the praise that couples seems hollow.
I can take the 7 sequels or leave them, some work better than others (but F-13 was more my thing).
Zombie's Halloween was unfortunate on many levels, but H2 displays such lack of understanding of the material.
I am glad you found something enjoyable buried within the serious flaws, but I can't defend Zombie for aborting a second bite at the apple.

Are you looking at the movie compared to the original Halloween? Or on its own? I haven't seen Zombie's Halloween yet but was he trying to remake it or re-imagine it?
