Tooth extraction...anyone?
Tooth extraction...anyone?
I have to get a tooth pulled and I've never needed it done before (a quarter of the molar is missing and they can't do a filling and I opted out of a root canal). One dental clinic I went to tried to start the procedure (five shots of Novocaine) and when they tried to pry my tooth out with what looked like an ice pick, I still had some really sharp pain and they had me on anti-biotics. That was March and I haven't been back there since.
I'm waiting for some insurance mess to get cleared up before I can try to get it pulled again, but this time I have a recommendation to go to the dental surgery department at a hospital in Buffalo because the dental clinic thinks that I need nitrous for the dentist to pull it without me having any issues. I AM TERRIFIED. Has anyone had this done before and how much pain were you in after?

FWIW, I had about a quarter of a molar missing after it broke and the dentist fitted a porcelain crown.

Find some place that offers 'painless dentistry'. They'll put you under.

I believe many pirates have poor dental hygiene and are thus missing teeth. This may or may not be one of the contributing factors to beginning a life as a pirate.

Just let it go. Once the pain from the tooth becomes so great, you won't give a shit whether or not they give you novacaine. You'll just want it out.
Or...you can always just tie a banjo string to it, and the other to the back end of bessie.

I had a molar removed two years back. I don't know what what the dentist gave me, but it was strong local anesthetic. When he asked me if I could still feel anything after the first shot, I said yes in spite of my mouth being totally numb. I just wanted to make sure, that I won't feel a single thing. The molar had four long roots, which according to the doc made it impossible to get the tooth out in one piece. He cut the molar in 4 parts and then removed them one by one with fairly generic looking pliers. I felt no pain during and immediately after the procedure, but I was somewhat in pain for the next 5-6 days. The doc prescribed me some painkillers, that unlike Aspirin, don't thin your blood. And speaking of blood: The most unpleasant thing was in fact the bleeding.

But that doesn't include GG. She's perfect, so I'm sure she has perfect teeth.
I was so terrified when I got my wisdom teeth pulled that the first round of whatever they use to put you to sleep did NOTHING. The second round knocked me out, but I woke up in the middle of it. I had gauze over my eyes and hands in my mouth and even though I didn't feel a single thing, I started screaming. I went right back out. Don't know if they gave me more stuff or if I passed out.
In the end, it was nowhere NEAR as bad as people tell you it's going to be and I felt like an ass for being such a baby about it. The only thing is that the painkillers I got didn't do anything, but 4 Advil got rid of almost ALL of the pain. Keep that in mind. It was the same way for our receptionist at work.

Is Advil the same as aspirin? Because the last time I took 4 of those per dose, I ended up in the ER because of weird headaches and they did all these tests thinking I had bleeding on the brain.
The pain that I've been having for the past week is gone but it was TORTURE. My wisdom tooth on my bottom right jaw was making itself known and trying to make room for itself by pushing against my bad tooth. Worst pain I've felt in a LONG time. I'll be making an appointment when my mom can drive again after recovering from her surgery.

Well, that would explain your politics.
