Saw it a few days ago. It's a great action movie, but I'm not sure that it lives up to the huge accolades it's had.

I saw this with moderate expectations (it has gotten a fair bit of hype in the action fan circle). Other than the beginning which plods a bit, once it starts it never lets up, and I'm rather willing to forgive the film its obvious shortcomings. You know you're in business when the drug lord pops those three guys without camera panning away - until the end of the film, I think there is a world record set for neck arteries getting disconnected by sharp objects.
The Welsh director in charge, Gareth Evans, visibly apes Walter Hill's Tresspass for the premise, but it's not as smart as its original. It is, however, unrepentantly violent in a rather pornographic manner, and the fights are a total delight if you're into that kind of thing. I can watch this every day of the week without boring myself.
Last time a martial arts actioner got me this excited was the original Ong-Bak. And Tony Jaa was flash, but Iko Uwais is just on another level.

It is very similar to Dredd - except, Dredd has comic relief, this is very grim and bleak.
